Ellen Pompeo is looking back on one cringe-worthy memory from her tenure on Grey's Anatomy.
The actress, who famously starred as the titular character Meredith Grey on the hit medical drama, recently opened up about one "awkward" moment on set that involved her good friend and co-star T.R. Knight.

While making an appearance on the Wednesday, March 19 episode of Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, Pompeo, 55, recalled filming a love scene with Knight, 51, who starred as George O'Malley.
Even though her character was supposed to break down into tears in the middle of the scene, Pompeo said she—and Knight—both cried "real tears" while filming the intimate moment.
"T.R. and I are such good friends, and we had to do a love scene. We were both crying. We cried," she divulged. "The scene was so uncomfortable and awkward. He didn’t want to do that. I didn’t wanna do it, and when we filmed it, it was so bad."

But even after getting through the scene, things only got worse when Pompeo and Knight found out they had to re-shoot it.
"The network said there was too much thrusting," Pompeo added. "In your worst nightmare, to have to do it one time, we had to reshoot that shit. We had to reshoot it and do it twice."
Filming the scene twice ended up being enough for Pompeo, who said she has never watched the scene back, even to this day.
"I've never seen it," she said of the scene, which is featured in Season 2 episode 19, titled "What Have I Done to Deserve This?"
"I don’t know how it was shot or covered or what the end, how it was edited, but I’m full on in tears the whole entire scene," Pompeo added, noting, "Those are real tears."
