The Torrent Group has taken over IPL franchise Gujarat Titans from CVC Capital after the BCCI’s go-ahead. The long awaited takeover is now formally complete after the board gave the green signal for transfer of control from Irelia Sports India Private Limited (CVC Capital) to Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group. The new co-owner owns 67% stake in the team while CVC Capital has 33%.

As per Cricbuzz, the Torrent Group purchased 67% stake in Gujarat Titans for Rs 5035 crore. The sale was completed at an enterprise valuation of Rs 7522 crore. Further, the BCCI will get 5% of each transaction within the ownership group, as per the franchise agreement.
Having entered the IPL in 2022, GT were crowned champions in their very first season. CVC Capital bought Titans for Rs 5625 crore. The franchise has seen a 34% appreciation in its value over the last three years.

It had bid to buy the franchise teams from Ahmedabad (Rs 4653 crore) and Lucknow (Rs 4356 crore). Eventually, in 2023, the team tried their best to buy a team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) but failed.
After becoming champions in 2022, the team reached the final in 2023 only to lose to CSK. In 2024, a major shake-up saw the change of captain as Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians. Shubman Gill was handed over the reins of the team. However, they had a poor season in IPL 2024 as they finished 8th on the points table.
