ZZ Top Member Exits Tour Due to Health Concerns

ZZ Top's drummer Frank Beard won't be performing as part of the band's Elevation Tour as previously scheduled due to an unspecified "health issue."

The band's co-founder “has temporarily stepped away from the current tour to attend a health issue requiring his focus in the near term,” the band's management company said in a statement posted to its official Instagram page on Saturday, March 15.

ZZ Top's Elevation Tour kicked off only a few days earlier, on March 5, making its debut in Dothan, Ala., but surely this health obstacle can't stop them from rockin'.

Frontman Billy Gibbons and bassist Elwood Francis will now be joined by percussionist and drummer John Douglas for an unspecified amount of time (presumably until Beard is ready to return). Some may recall that Douglas actually filled in for Beard one other time, many years ago, when the now-75-year-old underwent an emergency appendectomy in 2002 while in Paris.

Disappointment from the unfortunate news aside, the March 15 upload concluded with a note of positivity, adding that Beard, above all else, is “looking forward to a speedy recovery.”

Fans were undoubtedly a bit heartbroken by the update but understood.

"We love ZZ Top mo matter what and get well Frank! ????," one wrote.

"All the best, Frank!" a second exclaimed.

"Sending Luv, healing light & strength ??," a third gushed.

ZZ Top's Elevation Tour is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, March 18, in Hiawassee, Ga. The band will then make stops in South Carolina and North Carolina before wrapping up in Kentucky at the end of the month.

From there, the group is set to perform in the States until mid-April, after which, they'll take about two weeks off before resuming the tour in Australia and New Zealand in April and May, followed by Canada in June.
