An overtime loss in their final regular-season game earlier this week sent the University of Northern Colorado women’s basketball team to the ninth seed for the upcoming 10-team Big Sky Conference Tournament.
Northern Colorado (6-12) plays No. 10 Portland State (1-17) in the tournament’s opening game, noon Saturday at Idaho Central Arena in Boise, Idaho.
The conference men’s and women’s basketball championships will be held Saturday, March 8 through Wednesday, March 12 in Boise. The tournament champions receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournaments starting later in the month. All Big Sky tournament games will be available to stream live on ESPN+. The championship games will be aired on the ESPN networks.
The women’s championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m. March 12 on ESPNU. The men’s championship will be played at 9:30 p.m. March 12 on ESPN2.
Montana State (17-1) is the top seed for the women’s tournament. The Bobcats’ only loss of the conference season was to Sacramento State 73-69 at home last weekend.

The Bears shared the conference regular-season title with Montana and earned the tournament top seed on a tiebreaker.
Eastern Washington is the defending women’s tournament champion. Montana State is the three-time defending champion on the men’s side.
The only win of the conference season for the Portland State women was a 58-52 victory over Northern Colorado on Jan. 16 in Portland. The Vikings have lost 14 conference games since beating the Bears. UNC beat Portland State 68-50 on Feb. 15 in Greeley.
UNC (13-16 overall) lost its final three games of the regular season, at Idaho on Feb. 22 and home games to Northern Arizona last Saturday and to Weber State on Monday night.
The winner of the UNC-Portland State game plays Montana State in the second round at noon Sunday.
Eastern Washington and Sacramento State are the No. 7 and 8 seeds in the women’s tournament. They play at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, after UNC and Portland State.
The Eastern Washington-Sacramento State winner faces No. 2 Northern Arizona in the second round at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Fourth-seed Weber State and No. 5 Idaho State meet in the third round at noon Monday. No. 3 Idaho and No. 6 Montana follow with a third-round game at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
The semifinals are scheduled for noon and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
