San Diego County is set to experience an unsettled weather pattern this week, with rain, gusty winds and mountain snow forecast from Wednesday through Friday.
A weak atmospheric river will bring moderate to heavy rainfall, with coastal and valley areas having a 60-75% chance of receiving at least half an inch of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Mountain communities above 4,500 feet could see 3-5 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts up to 7 inches. Snow levels may drop to 3,500 feet by Friday morning, potentially impacting travel on I-8 through the mountains.
Winds will also be a factor, with peak gusts in the mountains reaching 75 mph, while coastal and valley areas could see gusts up to 40 mph. There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms, bringing lightning, heavy downpours and small hail.
Drier and warmer conditions are expected by the weekend, but another storm system may bring additional rain and mountain snow early next week.
High temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach 65 near the coast, 65 to 70 inland, 64 to 69 in the western valleys, 57 to 65 in the mountains and 74 to 78 in the deserts, the NWS said.
