A celebration of the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s iconic thriller “Jaws” is coming to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles this year.
Jaws: The Exhibition will be on view Sept. 14 through July 26, 2026, according to an announcement made during the 97th Oscars telecast. The museum is at 6067 Wilshire Blvd., at the LA County Museum of Art West.
It is the first exhibition of its scale at the Academy Museum that focuses exclusively on a single film, and the largest mounted exhibition ever for “Jaws,” which was released in 1975.
“After 50 years, many of the accounts about the production of Jaws are as well-known as the film itself,” said Senior Exhibitions Curator Jenny He. “This exhibition uncovers the film’s multi-layered mythologies and lore for both new and seasoned fans. It’s fascinating to think that ‘Jaws’ was Steven Spielberg’s second theatrical feature film.
The exhibition will feature more than 200 original objects from the film, including a costume worn by Roy Scheider, original shark design schematics and a prop dorsal fin.
The exhibition will illustrate how the film became the first summer blockbuster that forever changed the motion picture industry, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures stated.
“As an institution both devoted to and deeply enshrined within the film industry, the Academy Museum can combine deep, rigorous and fulfilling research with exciting moments of interactivity and discovery for our audiences, allowing them to experience this beloved film and enduring story in a brand new way,” said Academy Museum Director and President Amy Homma.
The 25-foot-long “Bruce the Shark” has been featured at the museum since its opening in 2021. The largest object in the Academy’s collection hangs outside the museum’s fourth-floor exhibition space.
