Shafaq News/ The Iraqi SunniEndowment, the Fiqh Council, and the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministryof Endowments and Religious Affairs announced that Ramadan will begin onSaturday, aligning with several Islamic countries, while Grand Ayatollah AliAl-Sistani declared Sunday as the start of the holy month.
The Sunni Endowment confirmed itsdecision after a moon sighting committee at Abu Hanifa Mosque in Baghdad’sAdhamiyah district reported the crescent had been sighted. Meanwhile, GrandAyatollah Ali Al-Sistani’s office in Najaf announced, "Sunday will be thefirst day of Ramadan for the year 1446 Hijri."
Thestart of Ramadan varies across the Islamic world. Saudi Arabia, Oman,Indonesia, and Australia confirmed Saturday as the first day of fasting, whileMalaysia and Brunei declared Sunday as the start of Ramadan after failing tosight the crescent moon.
