I can confidently say this has been a strong season for the Blackhawks’ prospects playing college hockey. Five of them have been nominated for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award (vote today!) and another, Oliver Moore, was part of the group that captures the first back-to-back gold medals for the USA at the World Juniors. Many are enjoying the best seasons of their respective collegiate careers.
But I wanted to take a moment to spotlight the terrific seasons the Blackhawks’ prospects are having specifically in the NCHC. The Blackhawks have four prospects in the conference: Sacha Boisvert at North Dakota, Dominic James and Adam Gajan at Minnesota-Duluth and Aidan Thompson at Denver. All three skaters are among the nominees for the Hobey Baker.
James is the captain at Minnesota-Duluth and is bouncing back from an injury-shortened season with a huge offensive campaign (read the good story Ben Pope wrote about him for the Chicago Sun-Times). Thompson is among the national leaders in scoring this season (41 points in 32 games entering this week). And Boisvert is near the top of the offensive leaderboard for a ranked North Dakota squad as a true freshman.
All four of the Blackhawks’ prospects have won individual weekly awards this season as well, with Boisvert capturing his fourth NCHC Rookie of the Week nod for a strong performance this past weekend. Here are the individual weekly accolades collected by the Blackhawks’ prospects.
