Berhampur: Prof. Geetanjali Dash, Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University, has lost Rs 14 lakh in digital arrest fraud.
As per Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M., Prof. Dash received a call from an unknown number on February 12 to her phone. The unknown caller, identified himself as an ED Officer, accused the VC to have involved in an ED case.
The fraudster informed that an account has been opened in her name at Canara Bank and crores of illegal money has been deposited in the said account in her name and kept her digitally arrest during evening hours.
The fraudster demanded an amount of Rs..14 lakhs from her for “release” which she obliged and sent the money through a bank cheque to the account of the fraudster.
In this connection, a case has been registered at Berhampur Cyber Police Station and investigation is going on, informed the Berhampur SP.
