Missouri sports betting has hit a slight snag. After many believed we would see online betting live by the middle of the summer, a recent rejection of proposed emergency rules has pushed back the timeline. This means the earliest bettors will see Missouri go online is in the fall.

Emergency Rules Rejected

Photo: Kelly Dereuck-USA TODAY Sports)Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins recently told iGaming Business that he has rejected the Missouri Gaming Commission’s proposed emergency rules for sports betting. This has caused the launch date to be pushed until at least the fall.
The emergency rules were sent by the MGC to Governor Mike Kehoe on January 27. Hoskins reviewed the documents and said, “The situation does not warrant an ’emergency’ rulemaking designation.” The rules will have to go through the standard process which allows public input.
NFL Week 1 in Jeopardy
The biggest question now shifts to whether Missouri will be live by the beginning of the NFL season. The 2025 NFL season will kick off with a Thursday night matchup on Thursday, September 4. The rest of the league would begin on Sunday, September 7. With the recent delay, the state might miss week 1 of the NFL season which would be a huge hit to possible betting revenue.
Missouri Must Launch by Dec. 1, 2025
We can expect Missouri sports betting to launch at some point this year because it is required by law to be live by December 1, 2025. Most likely, bettors will be able to bet on a large chunk of the NFL season. You can expect the Missouri Gaming Commission to work hard to get betting available to capitalize on the NFL season which is the biggest betting season of the year.
