Hey, I’m fine with the Cubs winning every single Cactus League game they play this year. So long as they take that same vibe into the regular season. Cubs beat the White Sox today 7-3, which makes the Dodgers exactly as good as the White Sox.
Justin Steele dominated in his two innings of work, which matters only insofar as it’s a health box to check … but it’s still always nice to see highlights:
Sharp stuff, @J_Steele21. ? pic.twitter.com/IWayik2Tcd
— Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) February 22, 2025Similarly, always fun to see something like this:
No club has more Top 100 prospects than the @Cubs.Moises Ballesteros (MLB No. 69), James Triantos (No. 73) and Kevin Alcántara (No. 90) each collect a knock in a five-run second inning. pic.twitter.com/N1FiZ3ByUP
— MLB Pipeline (@MLBPipeline) February 22, 2025Gage Workman, who continues to look competent at the plate (at least as far as you can tell in a few Spring Training games), got the start in right field. He’s done that a very little bit in the minors, but I think that’s a pretty obvious intentional move by the Cubs: they know he’s got a great infield glove, but if he can also play capably in the outfield, it becomes even more plausible for them to try to carry him as a Rule 5 pick out of the gate.
When you watch this home run, and think on where it landed, be reminded that the dimensions at Sloan Park are expanded to account for the ball traveling better there than at Wrigley Field. That means Ben Cowles might’ve hit this one 450+ feet:

— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) February 22, 2025Cowles, who figures to be utility depth at Triple-A Iowa, also put one off the wall earlier in the game. So he was feeling his thump today.
For the second time in three games, Michael Busch hit one off of another player’s head. Neither was his fault, of course, but today’s installment was more weird than scary:

— Aldo Soto (@AldoSoto21) February 22, 2025Some nasty movement early in the year:
