For months, we at Bloomberg Tech have been overhauling how we cover consumer technology in light of the artificial intelligence revolution. We’ve revamped product reviews, devoted more energy to reporting the business of building and selling gadgets and constructed a bigger platform for consumer tech content on Bloomberg.com.
Now, we’re significantly accelerating this expansion with the promotion of Mark Gurman to managing editor for global consumer tech. In his new role, Mark will oversee breaking news, reviews, features, graphics, video and audio related to consumer-focused devices.
Joining Mark’s team is senior editor Dana Wollman, former editor-in-chief of Engadget, who’s already playing a key role in our rollout and will lead the newly formed consumer tech pod. Rounding out the squad are Vlad Savov, an editor in Hong Kong, who will relocate to the US later this year, and Natalie Lung, who as a gig economy reporter already covers some of the most widely used consumer apps. We’ll add another reporter, with a job posting to go live very soon.
Mark and his group will also produce a new podcast, debuting in the coming months, as well as a regular column for Bloomberg Businessweek, both focused on Apple and the business of consumer tech devices. Even as Mark assumes a broader remit, he will retain coverage of Apple and ownership of the widely read PowerOn newsletter, under the guidance of senior editor Nick Turner—so there will be no let-up on scoops like his recent wins on Apple’s push into robotics, its plans to use AI in iPhones and the company’s abandoned car project.
A reporter for Bloomberg since 2016, Mark began covering Apple in high school and wrote for 9to5Mac while earning a degree in information systems at the University of Michigan.
In addition to assigning and editing consumer tech stories, Dana will continue to work closely with Lynn Doan on team edits, particularly in the busy East Coast mornings, while steering gig economy coverage.
