Steve Bannon argued that the “oligarchs” close to President Trump will abandon Republicans the same way they did to Democrats.
Bannon was briefly interviewed by CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan on Wednesday, when he continued his case against tech billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.
“You can tell President Trump doesn’t totally trust the oligarchs,” Bannon said.
The former adviser-turned-podcaster went on to say he wasn’t a conservative but is registered with the Republican Party and sees himself as “a Populist Nationalist.”
He noted that CNN’s viewers were going to resonate with the sentiment that Silicon Valley executives once supported Democratic missions but have now turned their support to Trump in a search for power.
“They’ve abandoned the progressive left. They will abandon us and do the same thing,” Bannon said.
“They seek power. Right now, their feeling is they can see the math and they see that we have a built-in coalition,” he continued. “So they’re with us … but only temporarily.”
Bannon has been critical of Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency, arguing the Tesla and SpaceX leader “wants to impose his freak experiments” on the United States
Ahead of Trump’s inauguration, Bannon issued a fiery review of Musk and Zuckerberg’s participation in the celebration. He argued Musk was not to be trusted and can be easily persuadable over ideology.
“So we will break all these guys eventually,” Bannon said. “They are broken right now.”
He’s long been a critic of Republican lawmakers and those who he thinks are insufficiently loyal to Trump’s agenda.
