County officials and community members broke ground on the Bonsall Community Park project Tuesday, transforming a former North County golf course into 24 acres of recreational space.
Located at 5290 Camino Del Rey and W. Lilac Road, the park will serve nearby schools, housing developments and Highway 76.
Phase one, set to open in summer 2026, includes playgrounds, picnic areas, multi-use sports fields, restrooms, a park office, security host sites, parking and sidewalk improvements.
The park is part of the 1,700-acre San Luis Rey River Park Master Plan, aiming to provide more public green space.
The county collaborated with residents and businesses to shape the park’s design and will continue community engagement for future phases, officials said.
