Since the Women’s Premier League (WPL) began two years ago, Delhi Capitals (DC) have established themselves as a formidable team, topping the league standings in both 2023 and 2024. However, despite their consistent dominance, they have stumbled at the final hurdle, finishing as runners-up on both occasions. As they head into WPL 2025, DC will be determined to break their title jinx and finally claim their maiden championship.
The Delhi Capitals squad remains a strong and well-rounded unit, with Australian legend Meg Lanning once again leading the side. In the WPL 2025 auction, the team made a bold move by acquiring all-rounder N Chirani for INR 55 lakh, making her their costliest signing and the fifth-highest bid of the season. Additionally, Delhi strengthened their squad by adding four new players, aiming to create a well-balanced team with depth and confidence.
Lanning’s leadership has been crucial to Delhi’s success, guiding them to the top of the league table in both previous seasons with six wins in eight matches. However, despite their dominance in the group stage, they have fallen short in the finals. As they gear up for their third campaign, the Capitals will be determined to shed their “runner-up” tag and establish themselves as true champions.
