Long Beach resident arrested after south Sacramento chase

SACRAMENTO COUNTY – A Long Beach resident has been arrested in the Sacramento area after a chase that saw authorities use stop sticks and a PIT maneuver.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says, late Tuesday night, deputies pulled over a suspect in south Sacramento. Exactly what the initial stop was for is not clear, but the driver did reportedly tell deputies he was on probation.

During the stop, deputies told the driver to exit the car – however, that's when they say he put the car back in drive and took off.

Sheriff's deputies and officers with Elk Grove police chased the suspect.

To get the driver to stop, the sheriff's office says Stop Sticks were deployed and managed to pop two of the suspect's tires. Deputies then used a PIT maneuver.

Deputies say the driver wasn't done trying to get away, though, as he allegedly got out and ran. Sheriff K9 Dave soon took the suspect into custody.

The car was later found to have been reported stolen.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Long Beach resident Latenette Gaston. He's being held on $50,000 bail at Sacramento County Jail.
