Surrey County Cricket Club (SCCC) have decided they’ll keep the majority stake in the Oval Invincibles. The Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), owners of the Mumbai Indians (MI) had won the bid for the Hundred franchise for £123 million (Rs 1327 crore) on January 30. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had started the bidding process with the aim to sell all of the eight franchise, offering a 49% stake to the new owners and the remaining to the counties. However, a further deal could be struck.

The Sun Group, the owners of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), had struck a deal with the Yorkshire Cricket Club and acquired the entire (100%) stake in the Northern Superchargers for £100 million (Rs 1092 crore). However, the SCCC aren’t willing to sell their majority share to RIL. Taking into account that the original bid was for 100% evaluation, RIL will acquire a 49% stake in the Oval Invincibles for GBP 60 million (Rs 649 crore).
“RISE will have a 49 per cent share of the Hundred team, with Surrey retaining the majority 51 per cent. The club hopes to benefit from Mumbai Indians’ vast experience and proven success, fresh off lifting yet another league title in South Africa over the weekend, to further strengthen and maintain the team’s position as the leading franchise in the competition,” SCCC said in a statement.
“Over 17 years, the dedication of the MI family has resulted in 11 league titles across the globe, including five IPL championships, two Champions League victories, and the inaugural WPL and Major League Cricket titles in 2023, ILT20 in 2024 and SA20 in 2025. Every team in the MI Family now has a winner’s trophy,” the statement further read.
