Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has withdrawn from the Badminton Asian Mixed Team Championships (BAMTC) due to an injury. Sindhu, who is yet to make her return to competitive action, cited a delay in her recovery from a hamstring injury to pull out from the tournament. Despite being named in the 14-member squad, the two-time Olympic medalist sustained an injury while training at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati.

Taking to social media platform X, Sindhu informed that she sustained an injury to her hamstring while training on February 4. She said that she will not be travelling with the team for BAMTC, adding that an MRI had revealed that her recovery would take longer than expected. She wished the Indian team best for the competition.

While Sindhu was the first-choice women’s singles player for BAI, Malavika Bansod was picked as the second choice. Now, the body faces a race against time to find an apt replacement for Sindhu.
“The Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships is a prestigious event that tests the depth and quality of teams,” said Sanjay Mishra, secretary general of the Badminton Association of India. “We performed well by winning the bronze medal two years ago, but this year, our goal is to reach the finals. From there, anything is possible, and we will give it our all.”
