A man was arrested in Douglas County last week after accidentally snitching on himself in a Castle Rock burglary case, according to the sheriff’s office.
Just before midnight on Wednesday, Douglas County deputies responded to reports of a burglary at a home under construction on Backdrop Street in Castle Rock, sheriff’s officials said.
Witnesses told investigators that a man, who has not been publicly identified, had taken lumber from the home and hid in the house when they yelled at him, sheriff’s officials said.
Though deputies searched the area with drones and police dogs and weren’t able to find the man, they did find his truck parked in front of the construction site and towed it as evidence, according to the sheriff’s office.
Several hours later, around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, the man called 911 looking for his truck and told dispatchers where he was, sheriff’s officials said.
