MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A deputy was injured during a crash while finishing a traffic stop, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened around 6:10 p.m. on Saturday. Officials say a deputy was completing a traffic stop when a vehicle drove by at a high rate of speed.
The deputy tried to stop the driver, but they hit their brakes and hit another car before fleeing the scene. The deputy reportedly swerved out of the way to avoid the collision and became airborne. MCSO says the deputy sustained a non-life-threatening injury that will require surgery but is expected to make a full recovery.
Deputies are still looking for the driver involved in the incident.
