Janney spoke about Guthrie’s family while talking to reporters in the Emmys virtual press room, saying she thinks about the loss every day and knows she isn’t alone.
The Today Show played a clip of Janney speaking to reporters shortly after her win for Best Supporting Actress in The Diplomat.
“I honestly can say I think about her every day and think about the loss and what Savannah and her family are going through,” Janney told reporters. “I don’t think I’m alone too. I think all of America was thinking about her.”
Guthrie was deeply touched that Janney used her own moment of triumph to think about her family. She thanked the actress for remembering her mom and used the opportunity to renew her family’s plea: “We just want our mom home, give her a proper goodbye.”
“I was so touched to see her do that, and it’s her moment of her triumph and for her to sit and just take a moment and think about our family, which, you know, I never let a moment pass if I get one to talk about my mom and how much we miss her and love her and my whole family, my sister and my brother,” Guthrie told Today co-host Willie Geist.
Guthrie continued, “All of our extended families are in such pain. We just need, we need help. So thank you, Allison Janney, for remembering us and for giving an opportunity for me to renew that call. We just want our mom home, give her a proper goodbye.”
