Nate Oats and Alabama lost veteran guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. to a season-ending injury early in the season. At the time, the head coach confirmed the team would pursue a medical redshirt.
This season would have marked the end of Wrightsell’s eligibility. After beginning his career at Cal State Fullerton, Wrightsell appeared in 31 games a season ago during Alabama’s Final Four run.
After appearing in just 8 game this season, Oats confirmed in a Friday radio interview that he expects Wrightsell to be granted his medical redshirt for the 2025-26 season:
“Our plan is for him to be back next year,” said Oats. “It’ll be great because he’s an experienced college player that shoots it at a high clip, that knows our system, that’s a great kid that everyone in the program loves. He can be a leader for us next year.”

— Blake Byler (@blakebyler45) January 31, 2025Wrightsell was off to a strong start this season with 11.5 points per game to go with 2 assists and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 42% from 3-point range. If Wrightsell had maintained those marks, he would be Alabama’s 4th-leading scorer and the top 3-point shooter in terms of percentage among all regulars.
Getting a veteran presence like Wrightsell back for Nate Oats would be a nice jumpstart to next season, regardless of how the rest of this season plays out.
