The NBA officially announced their remaining All-Stars on Thursday night, and a Chicago Bulls player failed to make the cut.
Neither Zach LaVine nor Nikola Vucevic heard his name called during Inside the NBA’s announcement show on TNT. Both players made a strong case for their third All-Star appearances, but the Bulls 20-28 record and 10th-place spot in the Eastern Conference has seemingly worked against them.
While there are a lot of talented guards in the East, LaVine’s absence feels particularly worth the snub title. He has averaged 24.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over his 42 appearances this season. LaVine is also shooting a career-high 51.1 percent from the field and 44.6 percent from long range on 7.3 attempts per game.
The 29-year-old joins Nikola Jokic, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Kevin Durant as the only players to average at least 24.0 points while shooting 50+ percent from the field and 40+ percent from downtown. Each of those three are All-Starters. Meanwhile, LaVine doesn’t even make it as a reserve.
Keep in mind that there is always a chance that LaVine or Vucevic can make it as an alternate if an injury is suffered. The Bulls will also still have one representative at All-Star Weekend, as Matas Buzelis is set to compete in the Slam Dunk Contest.
