City of Ukiah officials provided this update on the work residents can expect to see continuing on the Urban Core Rehabilitation and Transportation project in upcoming weeks:
Main Street Water Service Installation: Water service laterals are currently being replaced on Main Street near the old Bank of America building. This work will continue over the next 2-3 weeks progressing north on Main Street – no interruptions to service are expected with this work. Street closures will occur one block at a time in the immediate work area. East Gobbi Street ADA ramps and median work: Curb ramp, storm drain, and median construction is taking place on Gobbi Street between Main Street and Orchard Avenue. The medians will be planted with native plants and be designed to include spaces for art installations or other design elements at a future date. Intermittent disruptions to traffic may occur, however, two-way traffic is expected to be maintained throughout this work. Electric work on East Gobbi: Electric work is occurring throughout the project area to accommodate irrigation boxes and in preparation for the traffic signal at Main Street and lighted pedestrian crosswalk signs. Intermittent disruptions to traffic may occur, however, two-way traffic is expected to be maintained throughout this work. Main Street ADA ramps and curb work: Concrete work on Main Street will begin right after the water laterals and tie-ins are completed (within 2-3 weeks weather-dependent).Other components of the project that have yet to be scheduled include: Water tie-ins on Main Street; paving on East and West Gobbi Street; Traffic Signal install at Gobbi/Main streets; paving on Main Street; storm drain, curb work, and paving on Perkins Street.
City officials note that they “appreciate the community’s patience while we work to complete this important infrastructure project.”
