Global Fight League has added another notable name to its roster.
Former Bellator lightweight champion Patricky Freire, who was released from his PFL contract along with his brother Patricio, has signed with GFL – a new team-format MMA promotion that’s set to debut in 2025.
The news was first reported by MMA Fighting on Wednesday and later confirmed by Freire.
Freire (25-14) was last seen in action in the second round of the 2024 PFL lightweight season, where he lost a split decision to Bruno Miranda. Freire only competed twice under the PFL, but has a lengthy history with Bellator, as he competed for the promotion for over a decade.
The 39-year-old, who won the Bellator lightweight title in 2021, but subsequently lost it the following year to current champion Usman Nurmagomedov, holds notable wins over Besnon Henderson, Josh Thomson, Roger Huerta, and others.
