Karen Trusler will become interim superintendent of the Weld RE-9 School District effective Monday.
The Weld RE-9 Board of Education appointed Trusler during a special meeting on Thursday evening, according to the school district’s Facebook post.
The board unanimously voted in late December to fire former Superintendent Troy Damman, who replaced Robert Ring, after Damman served only five months in the role.
In her nearly 40 years of educational experience, Trusler has held multiple leadership positions, including superintendent of the Weld RE-4 School District for nine years and interim superintendent of the Weld RE-5J School District for two years.
She currently serves as the vice president of the Weld RE-4 Board of Education.
“We are excited to welcome Karen and are confident that her expertise, vision and dedication to education will help guide our district through this transition,” the post said.
The search for a permanent superintendent is underway. The district will form an external committee in March to interview candidates and provide feedback to the board.
