One of the major tournaments in snooker is about to celebrate its 50th year by breaking off with two of the biggest names in the game.
Defending Master champion Ronnie O’ Sullivan will play John Higgins, a previous Master’s winner, in the first round one match this weekend.
The Masters Snooker, sponsored by Johnstone’s Paint is the most prestigious invitational event in snooker, with only the world’s top 16 players earning places at the tournament at Alexandra Palace in north London.
Started in 1975, it is the second Triple Crown Event of the season, after the 2024 UK Championship in November and December last year and before the 2025 World Championship in April and May.
Expectations are high for this event as O’Sullivan, 49, bids to win his ninth Masters title with players such as world number one Judd Trump and world champion Kyren Wilson snapping at his heels.

All matches are the best of 11 frames, except in the final when it is the best of 19 frames across two sessions.
Each day of the tournament will see two matches at 1pm and then 7pm.
