A murder suspect remained in jail without bail Wednesday after his arrest near Del Mar Heights, according to San Diego police.
Investigators found Edwin Aguayo, 21, in a vehicle near Interstate 5 and Del Mar Heights Road at 10:42 p.m. Tuesday. He is suspected in the fatal shooting of David Solis, 19, a Tijuana resident.
Another suspect is outstanding, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sunday, officers from the San Diego’s Southeastern Division responded to a shooting near 300 Willie James Jones Avenue in Lincoln Park. They found Solis in the street suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the torso.
Medics took Solis to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Investigators determined that two men had been in the area, allegedly spray painting gang graffiti on a wall before engaging in an altercation with Solis. The shooting followed, police said.
Aguayo, who is being held in San Diego Central Jail, faces one count of first-degree murder and a gang charge, according to online jail records. His arraignment is set for Friday.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
