Due to high winds and potential power outages, schools in six local districts will be closed Wednesday.
The San Diego County Office of Education announced the closures early Tuesday evening for:
“The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts,” officials said in a news release.
Forecasters began warning residents throughout Southern California over the weekend that the region would face dangerous fire conditions due to expected strong winds coupled with severe and dry conditions.
Though a red-flag warning will be in effect through 6 p.m. Thursday in San Diego County mountains and valleys, concerns are particularly focused on a period from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, especially in parts of Orange and Riverside counties, according to the National Weather Service.
