CAIRO, Jan 6 (MENA) – Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production Abdel Maguid Sakr Monday sent a cable to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark to greet him on the Christmas.
In the cable, the defense minister expressed his best wishes for the pontiff and the Coptic community, asking Almighty God that security and peace would prevail across Egypt.
A similar cable of greetings was sent by Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces Ahmed Khalifa to the pope.
The defense minister issued directives to extend Christmas greetings to all Coptic servicemen and commanders of the Armed Forces.
Coptic Christmas is celebrated by Orthodox Christians on the 7th of January every year and is different from the worldwide Christmas celebration held on 25th of December. The date is set by the Julian calendar that pre-dates the Gregorian calendar used by other Christians. (MENA)
