New Orleans plans to reopen Bourbon Street to the public on Thursday after the deadly attack on New Year’s Day.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, rammed a pickup truck down the crowded street early Wednesday, killing 15 people and injuring many more.
Officials are investigating the incident as an act of terror. Jabbar's truck was found to contain explosives and an ISIS flag.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said there is an Airbnb rental tied to the deadly attack. She also stated that the city’s Sugar Bowl, which was postponed a day after the incident, should be further delayed, as Bourbon Street remains an active crime scene.
Murrill said the last of the bodies were being recovered after they were mangled from the truck barreling through the area.
Still, New Orleans has pressed ahead with its plan to reopen the famous street, The Associated Press reported. An official told the AP the area would reopen to the public at some point later Thursday.
Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police. He was a U.S. citizen and formerly served in the Army.
