San Diego County will ring in the new year with warmer temperatures and low humidity as weak Santa Ana winds sweep through the region from Tuesday through Thursday.
These winds will help push dry, warm air into areas west of the mountains, offering a brief respite from cooler weather, according to the National Weather Service.
High temperatures on New Year’s Eve are expected to reach 60 to 64 near the coast, 64 to 67 inland, 66 to 69 in the western valleys, 68 to 73 near the foothills, 61 to 69 in the mountains and 71 to 75 in the deserts.
Low clouds and fog will redevelop Tuesday but are forecast to decrease somewhat on Wednesday and Thursday, allowing for more sunshine and clearer skies during the day.
As the week progresses, forecasters said cooler temperatures are expected to return, along with the potential for fog and cloud cover to reappear.
Meteorologists also anticipate more Santa Ana winds developing early next week, possibly extending the dry and warm conditions further into January.
