On the evening of Tuesday, May 28, a hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain contributed to an accidental fatality and considerable damage in Greeley.
Joseph Rosendo Henry Carrisales, 48, died in the storm outside of a friend’s home in the 800 block of 24th Street. According to an autopsy report, he died from complications of “hypothermia due to being intoxicated, outside overnight following a thunderstorm. Chronic ethanol abuse was significant contributing factor.” Family wrote in his obituary that is survived by many beloved friends and family.
SERVPRO of Greeley/Windsor, a water damage restoration company, had at least 150 calls for service by the following afternoon, with city and county officials reporting multiple government buildings that were affected by flooding. Multiple downtown business owners shared the struggles of recovering after the flood damages, with at least one restaurant closing due to damages.

Greeley was hit by hail with a diameter of up to 2 inches, which is bigger than a golf ball.
The Family Funplex in Greeley was converted into a temporary shelter for families and those displaced by the flood.
