PLACER COUNTY – A driver has died after crashing into a propane truck near Auburn early Monday morning, authorities say.
California Highway Patrol says, around 6 a.m., a person driving a Pontiac Firebird on Highway 49 was heading north when they lost control near Joerger Road.
The car then went right into the path of a propane truck going about 55 mph – resulting in a significant collision.

It's unclear what caused the driver to lose control, officers say. The identity of the driver who died has not been released.
Due to the crash, CHP says northbound Highway 49 will be closed through around 8 a.m.
