World Darts Championship 2025: Latest results, who’s playing today, schedule and how to watch

Michael van Gerwen made a confident start to his bid for a fourth World Darts Championship title.

The Dutchman has had to wait to get his campaign up and running but he did so in comfortable fashion, beating James Hurrell 3-0 on Friday night.

It ensured he did not follow second seed Michael Smith in crashing out, after Kevin Doets edged a five-set thriller against the former world champion.

Smith just about edged past Doets 12 months ago, when defending his world title, but this time it was the Dutchman who held his nerve as the deciding set went to a tenth leg.

Stephen Bunting was in danger of following Smith out the exit door, with Kai Gotthardt having darts to take a two-set lead on Friday. Crowd favourite Bunting battled back, though, to ensure he will be returning after Christmas.

It is Christian Kist who has got the Ally Pally fans going the most this week, as he produced the first nine-darter of the tournament. That perfect leg was still not enough for him to get past Madars Razma.

Ryan Meikle held off a spirited fightback from Fallon Sherrock to set up a second-round clash with last year’s runner-up Luke Littler on Saturday.

Sherrock, who became the first female player to win a match in the tournament back in December 2019, won the first set and fought back from 2-1 down to force a decider at Alexandra Palace, before left-hander Meikle held his nerve to hit double 18 for a 96 finish to seal a hard-fought win.

Peter Wright kicked off his bid for a third world title with victory over Wesley Plaisier, while Gerwyn Price and Nathan Aspinall have also progressed.
