    Luton v Derby prediction

Luton head into Friday night’s crunch Championship match as favourites for victory despite being lower down the table than their opponents.

Pressure on Rob Edwards’ role as Luton manager increased last weekend with a 2-0 defeat at Blackburn, leaving the side with just one win in their last five matches – a run that also includes three defeats.

The Hatters head into the weekend down 19th in the Championship table in their first season back in the second tier since their relegation from the top flight last season.

What might encourage Luton fans is their recent record at Kenilworth Road, with the Bedfordshire side having lost just one of their last nine home matches since the end of August, which includes being unbeaten in their last five.

Derby make the trip to Luton fresh from ending a run of six winless matches in emphatic fashion by thrashing Portsmouth 4-0 last Friday night, shooting the Rams up to 14th in the table and now seven points clear of the relegation zone, just two points off the top half.

Paul Warne’s side will feel optimistic of securing another positive result at the home of an underfiring Luton side, despite having won only one match away from home in all competitions.

The Rams’ thumping victory last weekend ended a run of only one win in their last 11 matches, which will leave them delighted that they still sit as high as 14th in their first season back in the Championship since their promotion last season, and will be looking to break into the top half in their final match before Christmas.

Derby have won only one of their last five matches against Luton, which includes falling to defeat on each of their last three visits to Kenilworth Road.

Luton‘s home record, combined with Derby’s away record, leads me to believe that the home side should get the job done on Friday night, kicking off their weekend with a 2-1 win and three points to start the weekend.

    Luton v Derby betting tips

Elijah Adebayo has been Luton’s form man in recent weeks, scoring goals in three of his last four matches, including each of his last two at Kenilworth Road to make him the club’s joint-leading goal scorer in all competitions this season.

Luton’s strong home record of having lost just once on their home patch since August should stand them in good stead to increase the distance between themselves and the bottom three, while their opponents have won just once on the road all season.

Luton have conceded 11 goals in their last five games though without keeping a clean sheet in any of them, while Derby put four past Portsmouth last week.
