Trenton Dunham (Boulder County Sheriff’s Office)

Dunham was arrested on May 12, 2022, after a multijurisdictional crime spree that culminated with personnel from the Boulder Police Department, University of Colorado Boulder Police Department and Boulder County Sheriff’s Office pursuing Dunham in a stolen truck to the Table Mesa on-ramp of U.S. 36.

According to the affidavit, the spree began when Dunham reportedly shot at his father’s house in Greeley and then stole his car. He then crashed that car and stole a truck at gunpoint Thursday morning in Broomfield.

Shortly after that, Dunham was seen driving the stolen truck on the Pearl Street pedestrian mall, striking property near 15th and Pearl streets. The description of the truck, which was a work vehicle with a company logo on the side, allowed Broomfield police to connect the cases.

The vehicle was spotted again just before 7 a.m. Officers who saw it coordinated stop sticks to disable the vehicle. Though the sticks deflated the tires, the vehicle continued driving on its rims, the release said.

Dunham then continued down Table Mesa Drive toward the eastbound U.S. 36 entrance ramp and then onto the sidewalk headed toward the RTD bus stop where people ran from the vehicle’s path.

According to an affidavit, while driving Dunham pointed a gun at officers, leading to two deputies with the sheriff’s office and an officer from CU Boulder police to fire into the vehicle. Dunham was not hit, and police then used vehicle maneuvers to stop Dunham’s vehicle. The three officers were later cleared of any wrongdoing for the shootings.

In an interview with police after the crash, Dunham admitted to shooting at his father’s home, the Broomfield carjacking and pointing a gun at officers while driving in Boulder.

According to the affidavit, Dunham was on the phone with his mother at the time, and she was the one who told him not to shoot the gun.
