(KRON) -- The Oakland Fire Department responded to “multiple” vegetation fires shortly after noon on Monday near Interstate 880, fire officials said. A traffic advisory was in effect near the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum between Fruitvale Avenue and High Street/Oakport Street. In an update, fire officials said a person was observed setting the vegetation fires along the corridor with a blowtorch. The Oakland Police Department detained the individual. In a reply on X, formerly Twitter, OFD said that the detained individual "appears to be the same suspect that has been starting multiple roadside fires in the area recently."
