Houston Dynamo faced off against the Vancouver Whitecaps in an intense match that ended with a score of 4-3 in favor of the Dynamo. One of the standout players of the game was Fafa Picault, who scored a goal in each half to help secure the victory for his team.
The first half saw both teams playing aggressively, with several close attempts on goal from both sides. However, it was Picault who broke the deadlock with a well-placed shot that sailed past the Whitecaps' goalkeeper. This early goal gave the Dynamo momentum and set the tone for the rest of the match.
The Vancouver Whitecaps striker has been the subject of trade rumours since a report on July 27 saying he was seeking a move to an East Coast team. And Saturday night, he boosted his trade value by dragging the Caps back from a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead — scoring twice and assisting on another — before the Houston Dynamo scored twice late to snatch a 4-3 road win at B.C. Place.
Fafà Picault scored two of Vancouver’s three unanswered goals and the Whitecaps (11-8-5) rallied to take a 3-2 lead.
Picault scored unassisted with a header three minutes into the second half to pull Vancouver within a goal.
Picault set up a score by defender Ranko Veselinović in the 54th minute to knot the score. It was the second goal of the campaign for Veselinović and the fourth assist for Picault.
The Whitecaps took the lead in the 66th minute when Picault used assists from defender Sam Adekugbe — his second — and Sebastian Berhalter — his fourth — to score his eighth goal of the season.
The Dynamo pulled even in the 78th minute when defender Brad Smith took a pass from Sebastián Ferreira and scored for a second time this season. Ferreira's helper was his third.
Rivers FC would capitalize just before halftime, as former Whitecaps FC BMO Academy player Elijah Dos Santos pounced on a loose ball in the box.
The home side would add three more in the second half, before Amir Ghasemi scored a late consolation goal for the 'Caps.
That would prove to be in the only scoring in the match, as the 'Caps now turn their attention to the postseason.
Clark was called into action again when Pedro Vite took his chances from outside of the box in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper tracked the attempt the entire way to quell the danger.
Clark stepped up again in the 39th minute to make a full-stretch save to his left when Picault tried to curl a ball around the goalkeeper inside the box.
