To the Editor: If you look in the Ukiah Daily Journal or SF Examiner archives between July 5 and July 15 in the mid 50’s you will see a front page story about Ukiah High School golfer, Melvin Lauteren, lighting a bottle rocket dud after the 4th of July fireworks at the golf course and suffering significant permanent injuries. I was playing golf with him that day along with a couple of friends.  He had found the dud earlier, put it in his golf bag, and promised us he would not fool around with it.  But after our round (the golf course was only 9 holes then), a couple of us were sitting on the golf course deck when an enormous explosion occurred between the 7th and 8th fairways.  Melvin had go
