First Alert Weather: Yellow Alert ends as final storms push south

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Our Yellow Alert is ending as the last batch of storms pushes south Wednesday night. We had an extremely active weather day with our first round of severe weather with damage reports early in the morning. The evening storms packed a punch, with tornado warnings, reports of several observed tornadoes, straight line wind damage, hail reports and prolific lightning. The National Weather Service will likely survey any damage in the vicinity of the observed tornado (Niagara, western Orleans and Genesee Counties) to confirm and report on the strength.

Our weather will be much quieter going forward. We’ll see a few showers on Thursday, with the chance of a passing storm Thursday night into Friday morning as a slow moving front lingers nearby. The best chance of these showers will tend to be south of Rochester. Then drier and fresher air moves in for the weekend.

Speaking of the weekend, Labor Day weekend is looking good with dry weather and a fair amount of sunshine both days. Temperatures will be a little cool for some, but also very comfortable for outdoor activities, with highs in the lower 70s.
