Jasmine Paolini win over Emma Navarro to reach first Wimbledon semi

Jasmine Paolini secured a remarkable victory over Emma Navarro to advance to her first Wimbledon semi-final. Paolini's impressive performance on the court showcased her exceptional skill and determination, highlighting her as a formidable contender in the tournament. Her strategic gameplay and mental fortitude were key factors in securing the win against Navarro, a talented opponent.

Paolini's success at Wimbledon reflects her dedication to the sport and her commitment to continuous improvement. Her consistent training regimen and focus on honing her skills have undoubtedly contributed to her success on such a prestigious stage. This milestone achievement is a testament to Paolini's hard work and perseverance throughout her career.

Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 7 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of Wimbledon by defeating American Emma Navarro, the No 19 seed, 6-2, 6-1 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Londres on Tuesday evening.

Paolini, ranked No 7, will face Croat Donna Vekic next.

Ahead of her victory, the Italian won against Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo (7-5, 6-3), Belgian Greet Minnen (7-6 (5), 6-2), Canadian Bianca Andreescu (7-6 (4), 6-1) and American Madison Keys, the No 12 seed (6-3, 6-7 (6), 5-5 ret.).

The opening game hold from Elena Rybakina set the tone for this set – she wouldn’t go down without a fight. Pressure began to mount on Paolini during service games in a way she hadn’t felt up to this point. The Italian admitted after the match to feeling over-emotional in the second set, as she began to realise the gravity of what she could achieve.

The 23-year-old beat reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff - her teammate in the upcoming Paris Olympics - in straight sets in the fourth round to cement her best run at a grand slam.

“I played the best tennis I’ve ever played in my life this tournament,” Navarro told reporters.

“It’s really exciting to know I have that level inside of me. I know I’ll keep improving on it. I know this isn’t the last time I’m going to be in the quarterfinals of a grand slam.”

Navarro’s form at this year’s Wimbledon follows what has already been an impressive season for a player who only turned her full attention to professional tennis in 2022.

Navarro lost the fourth of the five break points she had in this match. From then on, Paolini jammed a heavy foot on the accelerator and Navarro won only two more points in the match. It was very different from her dominant display in her fourth-round win over Gauff, with whom she is due to play doubles at the Paris Olympics next month.
