First trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man reveals newest incarnation of the big red hero

The first trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man has been released, giving fans a glimpse of the newest incarnation of the big red hero. This highly anticipated film is set to bring Hellboy back to the big screen in a new and exciting way.

In this latest installment, we see Hellboy facing off against a new villain known as The Crooked Man. The trailer showcases intense action sequences and stunning visual effects that promise to deliver an epic cinematic experience for audiences.

The trailer opens with scenic shots of the trees, rocks, and hills of Appalachia. But it quickly becomes clear that something is deeply wrong here. “Smells like death,” Kesy’s Hellboy proclaims. As the trailer proceeds, we see a levitating woman bitten by a snake, plagues of bugs, and other horrific sights.

Kesy, who played Black Tom Cassidy in Deadpool 2, assumes the title role in a story set in 1950s rural Appalachia. Hellboy and a rookie BPRD (the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) agent played by Adeline Rudolph discover a small community haunted by witches led by the mysterious The Crooked Man.

Kesy is the third actor to play Hellboy in live-action form, following on from David Harbour’s 2019 effort and, most famously, Ron Perlman’s take in the mid-to-late 2000s films directed by Guillermo del Toro.

The teaser opens with some scenic shots of Appalachia as Hellboy makes ominous comments in a voiceover about "evil" lurking and how the forest "smells like death." It doesn't take long for that evil to make itself known, as a levitating woman is bitten by a snake, plagues of insects and other creatures wreak havoc, and Hellboy is assured that "all your friends are gonna die."  Honestly, I kinda like the folk horror vibe; some of those scenes look hella scary. Tonally, the teaser feels a bit like The Blair Witch Project meets The Conjuring or The Witch.

The Crooked Man directed by Brian Taylor (Crank) from a script he co-wrote with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden. The cast also features Jefferson White as Tom Ferrel, Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, and Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher.

Overall, the first trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man has generated a lot of buzz among fans and critics alike. With its impressive visuals and exciting storyline, this film is sure to be a hit with audiences when it hits theaters.
