Euro 2024: Croatia 1-1 Italy

Euro 2024 witnessed a thrilling match between Croatia and Italy, ending in a 1-1 draw. After a goalless first half, Croatia’s Luka Modric had a penalty saves in the 54th minute but just 60 seconds later he smashed home a rebound after Gianluigi Donnarumma pulled off another fine save from Ante Budimir.

The goal brought defending champions Italy to life, and they pressed for the equaliser which would take them through and, with time running out, Zaccagni curled home a shot from distance to break Croatian hearts.

At 38 years, 289 days, Modric became the oldest scorer in European Championship history with the goal, but Croatia's celebration would be short-lived.

Italy pushed hard for a route back into the game, and substitute Gianluca Scamacca was inches from connecting with a cross in the 87th minute.

However, with Croatia's fans starting to celebrate what they thought would be a victory, Italy struck that devastating late blow.

"Immense satisfaction, I'm excited, it's a beautiful evening," Zaccagni said. "It was important to draw to qualify in second place. We did well to stay in the game with a great second half. We deserved this draw. The coach did well to create this group, we will try to repay him on the pitch."

Overall, this match was a testament to the quality of football at the Euro 2024 tournament. Both Croatia and Italy showed why they are considered top contenders in European football, leaving fans eagerly anticipating their future matchups.
