The matchup between South Carolina and NC State on the basketball court was a thrilling display of skill and determination. From the opening tip-off, both teams showed their competitive spirit, fighting for every point and possession. The game was fast-paced and intense, with players from both sides showcasing their talents and athleticism.
South Carolina took an early lead in the first half, executing crisp passes and sinking shots from all over the court. Their defense was stifling, forcing turnovers and limiting NC State's scoring opportunities. NC State fought back in the second half, but South Carolina's relentless pressure proved too much to handle.
Despite facing the undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks — and despite being listed as 11.5-point underdogs — the Wolfpack came to play. While NC State trailed for the majority of the first half, the deficit was never more than two possessions. The score was tied at the end of the first quarter, and by the half, South Carolina only led by a single point.
The final matchup finishes out a dream March Madness tournament for NCAA Women’s Basketball, as star players such as Clark and LSU’s Angel Reese and others have grabbed the spotlight. South Carolina heads into the championship with a 37-0 undefeated season. Clark has emerged as a generationally talented star who now ranks as the highest-scoring NCAA basketball player in the association’s history, male or female.
Saniya Rivers, who transferred from South Carolina to N.C. State after winning a title as a freshman, shot just 2 of 11 and had five turnovers as her former teammates made every touch a tough one.
N.C. State coach Wes Moore knew his team would have to play its best to have any chance of bringing down bigger, badder South Carolina.
On Thursday, he likened the semifinal to a David-vs.-Goliath matchup and promised his team would “put the stone in the sling and let it rip.”
Wolfpack junior guard Aziaha James scored 20 points in the loss.
The Gamecocks will test their undefeated record for the final time when they face Iowa in the national title game at 3 p.m. EDT Sunday in Cleveland. The Hawkeyes beat the No. 3 UConn Huskies 71-69 in Friday's nightcap at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
