UFC 299 showcased an intense battle between Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint. The highly anticipated fight had fans on the edge of their seats as both fighters displayed incredible skill and determination in the octagon.
In the end, it was Dustin Poirier who emerged victorious, securing a hard-fought win over his opponent. Poirier's relentless aggression and precise striking proved to be too much for Saint to handle, as he dominated the majority of the rounds with his superior technique and strategy.
The lightweight star got back in the win column at UFC 299 on Saturday with a wild second-round KO, leaving the Frenchman flat on the mat with a hard right counter. The Miami crowd, not far from the American Top Team headquarters in South Florida where Poirier trains, approved.
Poirier did go for one more after tagging Saint Denis with a punch early in the second round. However, The Diamond didn't need to go for a choke attempt when he launched a perfect counter left hand that put his opponent on skates.
Instead of going for the submission he finished the job with punches and reminded everyone he's still a top lightweight.
Poirier had his work cut out for him on paper. With losses to Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje sandwiched between a win over Michael Chandler, the veteran was starting to fall out of the picture at the top of the lightweight division.

A follow-up right hand dropped Saint Denis. Poirier thought about another guillotine choke but didn't go for it. He landed another right hand that sent Saint Denis crashing to the canvas ending the fight.
Saint-Denis holds a slight 1-inch reach advantage, and he is 7 years younger than the underdog. The significant strikes landed per minute is nearly identical, with Saint-Denis holding an ever-so-slight 5.53-to-5.49 advantage, although he is much more accurate at 61.36%. He also has a tremendous 4.55 takedown average and 1.40-to-1.21 submission average.
