AeroMexico: Passenger walks on wing after lengthy delay

The recent incident involving a passenger walking on the wing of an Aeromexico plane after a lengthy delay has sparked widespread debate and concern. This bizarre event raises questions about airline policies, passenger behavior, and the overall state of air travel.

Firstly, this incident highlights the frustration that passengers often experience due to lengthy delays. In this case, the flight was delayed for several hours without any clear communication from the airline. Such situations can lead to heightened emotions and irrational actions as individuals become desperate for resolution.

Mexico International Airport said no harm had been caused, but that the passenger had been handed to police.

Fellow passengers, however, have written a joint statement, saying the man had everyone's support.

The incident occurred last Thursday, at around 11:30 - about three hours after the Aeromexico flight had been scheduled to take-off from Mexico City.

The delay was caused by a maintenance issue, an incident report said.

It went on to explain that a change of plane had become necessary after the unidentified passenger's unilateral move.

Fellow passengers, frustrated with the lack of ventilation and water during the wait, supported the man’s actions, signing a statement that he acted to “protect everyone.”

The airline confirmed the disturbance and emphasised that the passenger turned himself over to authorities, in accordance with international security regulations.

Tarmac delays, or situations in which an aircraft is unable to taxi and take off, but passengers have already boarded, are extremely common at airports across the globe. However, they can be some of the most frustrating for passengers as they are often trapped in their seats for hours at a time with no end in sight.

As a result, aircraft regulators set strict restrictions on how long airlines are allowed to be delayed on the apron before offering passengers an opportunity to deplane. According to the US Department of Transportation, airlines are required to provide passengers with a safe way to exit the aircraft once a delay has exceeded three hours for domestic flights and four hours for international flights.

A report on the incident said that a change of plane had become necessary after the passenger's dramatic move. It was not clear whether the man was still in custody, or what charges he may face.
