Justin Timberlake New Song Sanctified hits on Saturday Night Live

Justin Timberlake's latest song, "Sanctified," made its debut on the iconic stage of Saturday Night Live, capturing the attention of fans and critics alike. With his signature style and undeniable talent, Timberlake once again proved why he is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

"Sanctified" is a soulful and introspective track that showcases Timberlake's growth as an artist. The song delves into themes of redemption and self-discovery, resonating with listeners on a deep level. Its infectious melody combined with heartfelt lyrics creates an emotional journey for the audience.

Host Dakota Johnson introduced the “Mirrors” singer for his first return as musical guest in over a decade this weekend.

That moment saw him perform a second new track, "Sanctified," which featured rapper and singer Tobe Nwigwe, who also made an appearance on the SNL stage.

Timberlake, 42, also performed the lead single off of his forthcoming solo album, “Selfish," just days after its release on Wednesday.

Justin arrived on SNL this weekend as a musical guest with an air of desperation. In the midst of trying to reboot his pop-music career after 2018’s poorly received album Man of the Woods, his persona has also undergone a cultural reckoning, especially in light of the revelations about him found in his ex Britney Spears’s memoir, among them that she got an abortion because he “wasn’t happy about the pregnancy.” She wrote that Timberlake tried to serenade her with his guitar while she was in pain, and then went on to paint her as “a harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy” after they broke up. Between that and a reevaluation of his role in the Janet Jackson Super Bowl scandal of 2004, in which he got off relatively scot-free while Jackson was pilloried, Timberlake has become emblematic of a casual mid-2000s white-male cockiness that doesn’t play as well in 2024.

Elsewhere during Saturday’s episode, Timberlake and Fallon awkwardly crashed Johnson’s monologue. JT served as the evening’s musical guest, performing two tracks — “Sanctified” and “Selfish” — from his upcoming sixth solo album, Everything I Thought It Was. The set is scheduled for release on March 15.

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Jan. 26) on Billboard, choosing the 42-year-old pop star and actor’s first solo release in more than five years as their favorite new music release of the past week.

“Selfish” brought in almost 77% of the vote, beating out new music by Megan Thee Stallion (“Hiss”), Lil Nas X (“Where Do We Go Now?”), Ice Spice (“Think U the S— (Fart)”), Morgan Wallen (“Spin You Around (1/24)”), and others.
