LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) – Downtown Laredo will shine brightly but in a different kind of way. On Friday morning, a total of $271,290 of federal funds were given to the City of Laredo. The money is to replace the downtown area streetlights to energy efficient LED’s and purchase solar powered trash compactors which are trash cans that crush and compact waste. This would reduce the number of trips the garbage trucks take from downtown to the city dump.
