UFC Vegas 84:Magomed Ankalaev floors Johnny Walker

The highly anticipated UFC Vegas 84 event showcased an electrifying matchup between light heavyweight contenders Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker. The fight, held at the Apex facility in Las Vegas, left fans on the edge of their seats as they witnessed a stunning knockout that solidified Ankalaev's dominance in the division.

From the opening bell, it was evident that both fighters were determined to make a statement. Walker, known for his explosive striking and unorthodox style, came out swinging with wild hooks and spinning kicks. However, Ankalaev remained composed and showcased his superior technical skills.

Ankalaev and Walker are ranked contenders in the ever-changing light heavyweight division, and they both surely eye a shot at the 205-pound gold sometime during the year. Before they get there though, they need to get over the hurdle of a former foe, with their first encounter ending in a controversial no-contest.

The penultimate fight on the card was supposed to be a flyweight bout between Matheus Nicolau and Manel Kape but Kape missed weight and the fight was scrapped.

Ankalaev scored another victory, having not experienced defeat since 2018. Although his last two walks to the cage resulted in a split draw and a no contest, Ankalaev has firmly placed himself in consideration for a shot at the light heavyweight crown, currently held by Alex Pereira.

“The most important thing is that I’m ready to fight for the title,” Ankalaev said through an interpreter during his post-fight interview. “I have 10 victories in a row. It’s been a long time, I’m worth it, give me that fight for the title now.”

It was a bruising battle with both fighters showing bruising and swelling with some big punches and kicks thrown in the first part of the final round.

Miller forced Benitez to tap out with a face crank submission with less than two minutes left in the lightweight co-main event.

With the win, Miller has won two straight, and five of six as he eyes his opportunity to compete at UFC 300 in April. He called out Paul Felder back to MMA and even said he would move up to the welterweight division to take on Matt Brown.
